Women in Apprenticeship Day

Women in Apprenticeship Day highlights the critical role that apprenticeship programs play in expanding access to high wage, stable careers for women.

Apprenticeships offer paid, hands-on training, industry-recognized credentials, and a direct pathway to economic security. These programs are not just job training. They are a proven solution to increasing access to well-paid jobs and closing the wage gap.

But access to apprenticeships is not guaranteed. In fact, women make up just 5% of apprentices nationwide.

Strong policies and enforcement are essential to ensure that apprenticeship programs are equitable and accessible to everyone. This is especially critical since women make up more than two thirds of minimum wage and low-paid workers in the United States, which directly contributes to the gender wage gap and economic insecurity for women and families. However, rather than support more women to access these programs, the Trump Administration has proposed to eliminate critical anti-discrimination and equal employment opportunity regulations applicable to apprenticeship.

While the Trump Administration is refusing to acknowledge Women in Apprenticeship Day, we are raising our voices to show the impact of apprenticeship on women’s lives and oppose the Administration’s harmful proposed rollbacks On this page, you will hear directly from women who have gone through apprenticeship programs and built careers in the trades. Their stories show what is possible when opportunity is real and accessible and motivate us to continue fighting for equal access and treatment.
